Storage Information.

Protect your investment with proper handling and storage. Following the correct procedures for unrolling, rolling, and storing your Matting By Design floor mat ensures long-term performance, appearance, and durability.

With the right approach, your mat will maintain its structure and stay ready for use whenever you need it.

Unrolling Your Mat

Proper unrolling ensures your mat lays flat, grips correctly, and performs as intended.

Prepare the Surface
The proprietary pink backing requires a smooth, clean floor to grip properly.

  • Finished floors (terrazzo, marble, hardwood): sweep and mop thoroughly
  • Concrete floors: seal if possible; otherwise sweep and mop to remove debris

Unwrap the Mat

  • Carefully slit the outer wrapping without cutting the protective padding
  • Remove and discard the outer wrap
  • Slightly unroll the mat to remove protective padding
  • Save the cardboard core for future storage

Position and Unroll

  • Place the rolled mat where it will be installed
  • With assistance if needed, unroll the mat and allow it to rest flat for several minutes

Move Into Place

  • Keep the mat low to the ground and grip the fibers (not the edges)
  • Use a wave motion to allow air underneath, making it easier to move

Rolling Your Mat

Proper rolling helps preserve the mat’s shape and makes storage safer and more efficient.

Prepare the Mat

  • Ensure the mat is completely dry
  • Vacuum to remove dirt and debris
  • Flip the mat so the pink backing is facing up

Roll the Mat

  • Place the cardboard core at the shortest end
  • Tuck the edges around the core
  • Roll tightly and evenly with assistance, keeping the core straight
  • Once fully rolled, continue rolling a few extra turns to secure
  • Wrap tightly with shrink wrap to hold shape

Storing Your Mat

Proper storage prevents damage and ensures your mat is ready for future use.

Storage Best Practices

  • Always store mats lying flat
  • Never store mats upright or on their ends, as this can damage edging and cause wrinkles
  • Do not place objects on top of stored mats

Stacking Guidelines

  • Mats may be stacked, but always place heavier mats on the bottom
  • Use proper equipment, such as four-wheel dolly carts, to transport mats safely

With proper storage practices, your mat will maintain its structure, performance, and appearance for years to come.
